There is definitely a serious privacy concern here, regardless of whether we are shedding DNA all day long or not. Our DNA offers extremely personal data about the individual. By using someones DNA without their knowledge, you are invading their personal privacy, and in my opinion, their personal rights. It would be just like someone taking a blood sample without our knowledge. I see the possible implications of government tracking of individuals and other Big Brother problems that could arise.

One other knotty issue is the fact that revealing your DNA reveals information about related individuals' DNA.

The extreme case is an identical twin -- if one twin's DNA sequence is made public, then the sequence of the other twin's DNA is known. If one twin chooses to make their sequence public, can the other twin sue their sibling for damages?

Knowing the DNA of my child gives you a lot of guesses into my DNA or my wife's -- perhaps knowing that either us must carry a particular allele would make us uninsurable as a couple.

Another area that where there will clearly be pressure is in law enforcement -- there is already a lot of DNA work done there, with many beneficial results. But in the future, will warrants & subpoenas be issued to DNA sequencing companies to obtain the sequences of individuals suspected in a crime?
